Years ago, it wasn’t unheard of that DC and Marvel would do a crossover. If you go through your local comic book store you might even be lucky enough to find books where Batman and Spider-Man teamed up to fight Carnage and the Joker (it was awesome) or Batman Meets Captain America or Superman vs the Hulk. It’s all out there somewhere.
The Hulk doesn't stand a chance!
There was even the amalgam stories in the 90's that saw 2 popular DC/Marvel characters merge into one character. Sounds awesome I know.
Like I said, it SOUNDS awesome . . .
Nowadays things like that are little jokes they’ll put in their comics to poke fun at each other. They’re like little Easter eggs for fans. But what about an actual DC vs Marvel crossover? Or even just a simple team up? Why won’t they do it anymore? I’m sure the reasons include, money, time, legalities, and other BS of that nature. From what I know a lot of DC writers, artists, editors are actually FRIENDS with Marvel writers, artists, and editors. The "rivalry" is mostly in the fans’ minds. After all, most comic book fans aren’t exclusive to just one publisher. Take me for example, I buy Batman, Superman, the Flash, as well as Spider-Man, X-Men, and Iron Man.
Now that's just uncalled for!
And from what I gather, I’m not the only one. Truth is that when one company has success the other tends to follow suit (for example we would never had Iron Man without Batman Begins). So why don’t they do another crossover? I know I already asked that but it’s worth bringing up again because the reasons are stupid. Ok but what kind of crossover should we see? Well I’m glad you asked!
BATMAN '66 MEETS THE INCREDIBLE HULK '76
I'm gonna go ahead and confess to two crimes against my fellow comic junkies: 1 is that I only recently became a fan of the Adam West Batman series. 2 is that I've never actually watched the Lou Ferrigno Incredible Hulk series. I know! I know! I should just turn in my geek card right now and close my blog for good.
Oy! Where do we even begin?
Having said that I will admit that I'm always open to new, exciting crossovers. I got the "Batman '66 Meets the Green Hornet" series by Kevin Smith and Ralph Garman and I loved it. I think these types of nostalgic crossovers are lots of fun and it's great to imagine the original actors voices' in your head. I would gobble a series like this up! Let's make it happen guys! After all, we wouldn't wanna make Hulk angry now would we?
CREATIVE TEAM CHOICE: Let's reunite the "Batman '66 Meets Green Hornet" crew! Kevin Smith and Ralph Garman writing and Ty Templeton on art.
ARROW VS CAPTAIN AMERICA:
Most people want to see Hawkeye vs Green Arrow but personally I think that's lame. We've seen two archers go at it before and it's cool but let's think outside the box here. I'd rather see Oliver Queen from Arrow fight Chris Evans from Captain America. Since a film version of that is highly unlikely and Evans is not gonna guest star on the show, I'll have to settle for a comic book fight. I think these two could make for one hell of a fight. I can already hear the sound of the arrows bouncing off the shield. Dang, that would be super awesome and exciting and the best thing ever. No offense to Hawkeye but two archers fighting just isn't as interesting as this potential fight. Who would win? Oh goodness I won't even go there. Both heroes are highly skilled with their off-beat choice of weapons. Admit it, this would be a pretty exciting fight!

SPIDER-MAN / THE FLASH:
I don't see this one as a "vs" but more of a team up. Flash and Spider-Man both have very colorful Rogues Galleries. It would be really cool to see a team up for the villains and then the heroes need to combine forces to beat them. Plus the other cool thing about these two teaming up is how similar they are. They are both law abiding citizens, never categorized as vigilantes, and both men are giant nerds. They both have an element of tragedy in their past that, while it defines them, they don't let it ruin their optimism. Also it would be great to see Spider-Man react to the Flash museum while he's public menace #1.
CREATIVE TEAM CHOICE: Mark Waid writing and Marcus To on art.
WONDER WOMAN AND AGENT CARTER VS THE NAZIS;
This is probably my strangest suggestion. Wonder Woman was created during World War II and like a lot of heroes back then she was propaganda material. There have been some really good stories of her during that time period and it would be cool to see a period piece with her fighting along side Captain America's first love. I think these two strong, independent woman would fight well together. In my mind, Wonder Woman is always impressed with a woman that can take care of herself and isn't held down by the standards of men. Wonder Woman and Peggy are great role models for young girls and I like the idea of a comic that shows them that it's ok to stand up for yourself and to not have to take any crap from bullies/men. I'm all for equality between men and women and I think comic books are a great place to tell a good story. Comics have always been morality tales disguised as fantastic adventures. Plus these two characters are just awesome!
CREATIVE TEAM CHOICE: Gail Simone writing and Terry Dodson on art.
SUPERMAN VS DR DOOM:
It couldn't just be all heroes right? Dr. Doom has been the #1 Fantastic Four villain since their creation and Superman was the first superhero. This match up has been done before (based on my google search and I found that picture) but I think it would be great to see it again. Doom has been working on his magical powers, which of course Superman is vulnerable to. It would be a pretty epic fight considering Superman couldn't do much against Doom given his "diplomatic immunity." It's not exactly an original idea but it would be a lot of fun. Plus, I just like the idea of Doom fighting a truly superior being. That would really piss him off.
CREATIVE TEAM CHOICE: Tom Taylor writing and Steve Epting on art.
There you have it. My picks for Marvel and DC crossovers. They're not all fights, some are just because I want to see what the character interactions would be like. Maybe one day I'll get my wish, but for now it's fun to dream.
